Spain is bordered by the Bay of Biscay, the Mediterranean Sea, the North Atlantic Ocean, and the Pyrenees Mountains, southwest of France. It consists of 19 autonomous communities and covers a total area of 504,782 sq km.

The Spanish climate is considered temperate; clear, hot summers and partly cloudy and cool winters, along the coast.

The population of Spain is 40,341,462 (July 2005) and the official language is Castilian Spanish, spoken by 74% of the population. 94% of the people are Roman Catholic.

The Costa Blanca is located on the east coastline and covers around 170 miles of coastline. The northern Costa Blanca is known to be particularly attractive due to its mountainous and rocky regions, combined with wonderful stretches of beach.

Not only this, but it also possesses one of the best climates in the world as the temperatures vary fairly little between the winter and summer months. In fact, the World Health Organisation has proclaimed that the Marina Alta of the Costa Blanca has “one of the most environmentally perfect climates in the world”. The average temperature is 17.4ºC and the average rainfall 956 mm per year.
